Join GEF, and area nonprofits, as “Gloucester Counts Down to Kindergarten” Wednesday, August 22 from 5:30 – 7:30, beginning at City Hall. Help us welcome Gloucester’s children as they enter our schools for the first time. Watch a play about the first day of kindergarten, tour a school bus, participate in fun activities, meet your child's principals and kindergarten teachers and get special gifts from GEF and other participating organizations. If anyone you know has a child entering kindergarten at one of Gloucester’s elementary schools, please let them know about this fun event! It’s always one of our favorites! ... See MoreSee Less

Gloucester Education Foundation

GEF is funding a Summer STEAM Camp at Beeman Memorial School to get our young students excited about science and technology! The six-week program, which started on July 8, focuses on various aspects of engineering and uses the Engineering is Elementary curriculum developed by the Boston Museum of Science. Each week, students look at a different aspect of this field and are given hands-on challenges where they create solutions to real-world problems (that IS, after all, what real engineers do!).

Check out these photos of Week Two: Shake Things Up--Engineering Earthquake-Resistant Buildings!

In addition to learning principles of engineering and taking part in engineering challenges, students are spending time learning how to write computer code using the kid-friendly Scratch program, developed by MIT.
