Dawn’s training and career were spent in theater and theater education. She has worked as an educator at every level, with K-12 students in a variety of settings and in higher education in the theater departments at Emerson College and Gordon College, both teaching and producing shows.
When her children were at East Gloucester School, she began regularly volunteering both in their classrooms. She particularly enjoyed supporting the school’s theater program, helping to win over resistant parents to the idea of doing Shakespeare with elementary kids, directing a production of the Tempest, and witnessing the general pleasure of experiencing theater as a rite of passage through the 5th grade plays (for which GEF provides funding each year, then and now).
For Dawn, education is perhaps the most important way we can invest in our community. She is grateful for the work of the GEF to improve our public education and to make exciting educational experiences accessible to all of our children.
